Send Us Your Stalled Brazilian Lead: How the Referral Works

Signing a referral agreement to unblock a stalled Brazilian lead

The referral works in four steps: you identify the buyer, you send one introduction, we diagnose the deal in Portuguese, and the order closes directly between you and your customer if it is viable. Here is exactly what happens at each stage, what it costs you, and how much you can send us.

Why this matters:
  • You send us one email or message. That is the entire effort required on your side.
  • We are paid by the Brazilian importer, not by you, so there is no fee or commission clipped from your sale.
  • The order stays yours. We are not a trading company and never buy or resell your goods.

How the referral works, step by step

Every referral we work follows the same four-step sequence, whether the stalled deal is a single container of samples or a recurring supply agreement worth six figures a year. None of the four steps require a contract, a call with legal, or a commitment from you before we start.

  1. You identify the buyer. The company, the contact, the product they wanted, and the last thing that was said. That is all we need to start.
  2. One introduction. A single email or message connecting us with your buyer. You are not handing over the relationship, you are adding the piece that was missing.
  3. We diagnose in Portuguese. We talk to the buyer in their own language, about their tax situation and licence status. People say things to a Brazilian consultancy that they will not put in writing to a foreign supplier.
  4. The order closes with you. If the deal is viable, Guelcos runs the Brazilian side of the import and the purchase order stays between you and your buyer. If it is not viable, you stop spending sales effort on a buyer who was never going to close, and you find that out in weeks rather than quarters.

That last point is worth underlining. A stalled lead sitting in a US manufacturer’s pipeline is not neutral. It occupies a sales rep’s attention, shows up in forecasts as a maybe, and gets a follow-up email every few months out of habit. Step four gives you a definitive answer either way, so the pipeline reflects reality instead of hope.

Why do stalled leads stall in the first place?

Stalled deals

Send us the buyer who never came back.

They liked the product, asked for a quotation, then went quiet. It is almost never the price: it is whether they can legally and predictably receive the goods.

Tell us about the buyer

No cost, no commitment.

US manufacturers usually assume a stalled Brazilian buyer lost interest or found a cheaper option. In our experience that is rarely the actual reason. Almost always, the buyer ran into one of five blockers that have nothing to do with your product or your price, and everything to do with the mechanics of legally bringing goods into Brazil. We will not go deep on any single one here, each has its own explanation, but it helps to see the full list in one place.

  • Import licence. The buyer is not currently authorized to import (RADAR/Siscomex), and that authorization lapses after six months without an operation, so even a company that imported from you last year can be blocked today.
  • Landed cost. Duty, taxes, freight, port and brokerage fees stack on top of your FOB price, and the buyer cannot model the real total on their own.
  • Supplier trust. The buyer has no reliable way to verify a foreign supplier they have only met over video calls and a catalogue, and hesitation wins by default.
  • Certification. INMETRO, ANATEL, or ANVISA requirements, depending on the product, often surface late in the process and stop the deal cold.
  • Operational execution. Incoterms, container loading, port choice, demurrage, and customs clearance are enough unfamiliar variables that a buyer who is unsure simply does nothing.

You do not need to figure out which of these five applies to your stalled lead. That is the diagnosis Guelcos runs as part of the buyer unlock process, in step three, in Portuguese, directly with the buyer.

What this costs you

The honest question underneath all of this is what we get out of it, and whether that cost eventually lands on you. It does not. We are paid by the Brazilian importer, not by the US manufacturer, so there is no fee, no commission, and no cut taken out of your side of the sale. If the deal closes, you are paid by your customer exactly as you would have been without our involvement. We commit to three things in writing before any engagement begins.

  • We are not a trading company. We never buy or resell your goods. The order stays yours.
  • We do not introduce your customer to a competing supplier.
  • We are paid by the Brazilian importer, not by you.

Those three guarantees exist because the referral model only works if manufacturers trust it enough to actually send us their pipeline. A supplier that suspects we might quietly redirect their buyer to a competitor, or insert ourselves as a middleman on the goods, has no reason to send anything. So we do not do either of those things, and we say so before you send us a single lead.

How many leads can you send?

There is no limit. Some US manufacturers send us one specific contact they remember clearly, a buyer who asked good questions and then vanished. Others go further and review their entire Brazilian pipeline going back a couple of years, sending us everything that went quiet without a clear reason. The second approach tends to surface deals that had already been written off internally, sometimes contacts a sales rep had stopped following up on so long ago that nobody remembered why. A buyer’s licence status, tax situation, or internal budget can all change in ways that make a previously dead deal viable again, so age on its own is not a reason to leave a lead out.

It is also worth sending contacts you are genuinely unsure about, including ones where you suspect the buyer was never serious. Part of what the diagnosis gives you is a clear answer either way. A confirmed “this was never going to close” is still useful, because it tells your sales team to stop spending attention on that contact and focus on ones more likely to convert. We would rather tell you plainly that a lead is not viable than have it sit in your pipeline indefinitely based on hope.

You also do not need a fully qualified deal with terms already discussed before you send it to us. Some of the most useful referrals we receive are early conversations where the manufacturer senses something is off but cannot name what it is. Diagnosing that earlier, before both sides have spent months negotiating, is usually where we add the most value. If you have a stalled buyer in mind, reach out to Guelcos and send the details.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does this cost us?

Nothing. We are contracted and paid by the Brazilian importer, not by you. Sending us a stalled buyer carries no fee or commission on your side. If the deal closes, you are paid by your customer exactly as you would have been.

Will you take our customer to another supplier?

No, and we put that in writing before any engagement starts. We are brought in to solve the Brazilian side of a specific transaction. Introducing your customer to a competing supplier would also destroy the referral relationship that brings us this work in the first place.

What if the buyer simply cannot afford it?

Then you find that out in weeks instead of quarters, and you stop spending sales effort on a contact that was never going to convert. A clean no is worth something on its own. Most of the time, though, the blocker turns out to be procedural rather than financial.

How many buyers can we send?

There is no limit. Some manufacturers send one specific stalled contact; others review their whole Brazilian pipeline and send everything that went quiet in the last couple of years, which often surfaces deals people had already written off.

Do we need a contract before sending a lead?

No. You send the information, we make the introduction and run the diagnosis. There is nothing to sign to get started, and no obligation created by sending a lead.
